Ecuador La Papaya
Juan Peña’s farm, Hacienda La Papaya, has made some huge waves for producing some of the most exceptional and experimental coffee in Ecuador. One of his lots was used by the current US Barista Champion for their World Barista competition coffee, and his coffees have become well represented at all levels of barista competition.
Despite Juan Peña’s innovative success and his recent accolades on the world stage, he is also one of the kindest producers we have ever met. We visited La Papaya two years ago and got to see firsthand all of the exciting and advanced farming and processing techniques he employees, as well benefit from his hospitality.
Organizing his fertilization and processing techniques into specific lot “blocks,’ we are proud to offer Block #7, a natural-style process that is exceptionally clean and has notes of concord grape, cantaloupe and crisp green apple. The delicate and nuanced character of this coffee offers a glimpse into the kind of cup profiles that have given Juan Peña worldwide notoriety. We hope you enjoy!
