Fun fact, Uganda is Africa’s top exporter of coffee, surpassing Ethiopia in 2025 with 495,000 tons exported versus Ethiopia’s 442,000. Tons!!

The reason you may not have experienced much coffee from Uganda up until now, is that the majority of those tons in Uganda are from Robusta versus Arabica (roughly 85% robusta versus 15% arabica). That number is shifting with companies like Mountain Harvest who are specializing in showcasing Specialty Coffee from Uganda. Most coffee in Uganda is centered around Mt. Elgon but Mountain Harvest is seeking to invest and develop the areas on the western side of the country, around the Rwenzori Mountains National Park.

From our friends at Cafe Imports:

“To challenge Uganda’s coffee status quo beyond Mount Elgon, they (Mountain Harvest) launched the Rwenzori Smallholder Project in 2022 on the “Mountains of the Moon.” Their focus: to professionalize a team of local agronomists, strengthen technical processing expertise, and extend Mountain Harvest’s hallmark farmer services to the districts of Kasese and Bunyangabu.

The discovery phase began in 2022. They explored whether farmers would be interested in their methods, whether the region’s coffees held untapped quality potential, and whether they could build a strong team of Ugandan professionals within the region. The results were immediate and inspiring—proof of promise both in the cup and in the people.”

In the cup, this coffee is a dynamic display of versatility. At its core lies a very sweet, slightly herbaceous cup with a tea-like finish. As you open the brewing ratio up a bit more, however, more delicate florals start to emerge. One cup even made us second-guess if we were tasting a washed Ethiopia.

We are super honored and excited to carry our first ever Ugandan coffee and cannot wait to bring in more.

Enjoy!
