Ethiopia Banko Gotiti

There’s a special kind of joy when writing these coffee descriptions and seeing that you have an archive spanning more than just one season. Coffee is such a seasonal product and a myriad of things can get in the way of showcasing a certain producer, a certain farm, or even a particular region each year. To see that we’ve been able to purchase coffees from Banko Gotiti for the past six years is a testament to everyone in the supply chain and especially to the producers and managers at this fantastic washing station.
It’s no secret that some of our favorite coffees come from Ethiopia. The unique flavor profile, the spectrum of possible flavors, and the fact that arabica coffee first came into existence there- is enough to get anyone excited. Add that to the fact that these coffees usually IMPROVE with age and can take a wide range of roasting levels, and, well, that just warms our little roaster hearts on top of it all.
In the cup the first tasting note I wrote down was “FLORAL” in all caps because it was screaming with jasmine and backed with a honeysuckle sweetness. All the stone fruits started following with plum, peach, and apricot making the whole experience both ethereal and incredibly grounding. On the brewing side if you stretch out the ratio so that you are using more water to coffee you’ll get into fruit punch territory whereas if you make your brew stronger you’ll get a bit of chocolate on the back end. Again, the versatility alone is worth your time in exploring this coffee.
Enjoy!
